Automotive Standards, Core Tools & Other Updates

The Great Automotive Supply Chain Traffic Jam of 2024

The global pandemic, supply chain constraints, and IATF waivers provided a short-term reprieve from some of the major changes passed down by automotive OEMs. Roughly five years later (2020+ time is weird) – in the spring of 2024 – we are seeing the requirements of the automotive supply chain come alive with great fury.

VDA/AIAG FMEA

Not only are OEMs and tier 1-2 companies beginning to expect complete transitions to the “new” FMEA requirements, the AIAG and IATF have also released several new publications within a few weeks of each other; all while the Baby Boomers move into retirement in record numbers.

6 Pack & Rules 6

In addition to the AIAG/VDA version of the FMEA, the core tools are now a Core Tools “6-Pack” (APQP and Control Plan have been separated and updated as new releases) and the Rules for Achieving & Maintaining IATF Recognition is now “Rules 6”.

Rules 6 can be purchased from AIAG (or your respective national equivalent) for $55.00 (member pricing) or $165 (non-member pricing). And it seems like just yesterday when you could access Rules 1 through Rules 4 free of charge. Goodbye customer focus. HELLO revenue stream!

CSRs

Customer-specific requirements (CSRs) from the OEMs are showing a lot of demand as well. Ford released new CSRs in March, German automotive continues to rollout VDA requirements, and GM requires its suppliers to be migrated to the new APQP 3rd Edition and Control Plan 1st Edition by September 1, 2024.

The “7-Pack” Upgrade

  • IATF 16949, 1st Edition

  • APQP, 3rd Edition

  • Control Plan, 1st Edition (stand alone)

  • PPAP, 4th Edition

  • AIAG/VDA FMEA Handbook, 1st Edition

  • MSA, 4th Edition

  • SPC, 2nd Edition

You can purchase a single license to this 7-pack bundle from AIAG (or your respective national equivalent) for $364.50 (member pricing) or $972 (non-member pricing).

Keep in mind that the e-Documents are not PDF versions, unlike other sector-specific companions and standards (i.e. aerospace, medical devices, hundreds of others). These electronic versions do not allow printing and requiring a special document reader to access. #paytollahead
